After the setback on Wednesday we’re now fully recovered and almost caught up. We now have the first few pages live, contact forms working – we’re working on sorting out some Spam issues. But that is one of the issues that you get when you have a public facing web site.
The Spam issue aside, the site is moving forward. Not as quickly as I would like, but it is moving and will continue to do so. An interesting aside that came to the fore, was the pricing that I mentioned in the last post. It was pointed out that for almost the same information as is in the full data set, another website was charging $5.00 per record.
I have not had a chance to check the site out, but as the claim was made over a couple of beers I think a mistake must have been made. There doesn’t seem to me to be any situation where tha data is worth that much. When I get a chance I’ll go and check, maybe I’ll put the prices up.
The prices up scenario is unlikely, I’ve decided to share the data that I have and to try and do it in a sensible way. So the reason for the charge for the data is to offset the $500 a year that it costs me for the site. All the usual things, hosting, domain name, software costs and all the other small things.
I’m really not expecting this data to make me rich, in truth if it does cover the costs I’ll be surprised.
