Today has been fairly productive, had to brush up on some pretty old sed and awk skills. Funny really, I thought that I’d probably never use them in earnest again, that was probably five years ago or more. But, now I find that there are few tools that are as quick and I can’t be bothered learning a new skill set. It’s odd the way that people used to write compact code, code that was fast, didn’t need massive resources and did the job. The code to update the records in the enthusiast file was written in 72 Bytes of code 82 bytes if you include white space.
As you may have guessed from the above, we are starting to test our processing software. It is now at the stage of being wrapped, a very simple UI – just a text based menu system (less to go wrong) which given the performance will mean that we could offer a same day service for the file delivery.
But in the mean time we are investigating the packaging, along with options for delivering the data in other applications files. It may be that there is an Open Office offering, there are a number of options on the table at the moment.
Still, onward ad upward as they say. We have to keep the momentum going, the web site won’t create itself and the code still needs to go to final test.
