The Data Sets

There are three data sets and each is provided in two formats, that is something for everyone. The raw data is provided in a comma separated values file (CSV) with an Excel spread sheet thrown in for good measure.

Data Source

Data Processing

The data is based on data downloaded from the Federal Aviation Authority, this data is available to the public and comprises over 300,000 records. We process this data using in-house software, this allows us to provide data that is in a much more user friendly format.

The data is processed using our software in a way that makes each record complete, that is we replace short codes and index information with the complete data. This process is known as denormalization, it makes the data much more people friendly.

What we do to the Data

The data is processed on the assumption that the data source is correct, we are not altering the data in any way. The process we carry out is commonly referred to as denormalization, the data is normalized in the data base – you can read about that here if you want to understand the data source format.

As well as denormalizing the data, we verify that the registrant address data is compliant with the United States Postal Service (USPS) requirements. This data is formatted in a way that allows you to use the standard three to six address lines convention, it also includes the Zip code in a Zip+4 format.

Where the registrant is listed as an individual or Co-Owner, we provide additional capitalized information in the form of “Forename” and “Surname”. We do this to enhance your ability in regard of personalization, a useful addition for mail merges.

We provide additional filtering information, like Region and County to allow you to run precicely targeted sales campaigns. You can simply download the data, in whichever format you need and you are ready to go!

The Full Data Set

The full data set is put together for aircraft dealers and servicing companies, it is created will all the information held in the releasable file from the Federal Aviation Authority. This file currently contains information on 682,000 air frames, of which 302,000 can be considered current – a figure which varies on a daily basis.

We use a number of files in the processing of the data, this allows us to present a single file containing all the necessary data. The data is delivered in two formats, a basic file containing comma separated values which is suitable for import into your own applications. Most applications that import data will accept this format, so if you have a CRM or use a different office suit the data will fit.

What is missing, as far as air frame data goes nothing. But there is a facility allowing private aircraft owners to ask that personal information is withheld, at the time of writing 686 individuals have requested to use this feature.

This data set is the one for Aircraft Dealers and Aircraft Service providers, it has everything you need for your business.
